Let me start with Lola, a female squirrel monkey, now almost 1,5 years old. This is the start of Monkey Home.
LOLA
Lola’s story is one of resilience. Once confined to a tiny cage in a family’s home, she knew nothing of freedom. The family loved her, but love alone wasn’t enough to give her the life she truly needed. Her world was small, her movements restricted, and the playful spirit she was born with had no room to grow. Then, one fateful day, everything changed. The owner of Monkey Home decided to built a new home for her and give her a new family and friends to play with.
But freedom, as it turned out, was daunting. Lola had never known how to run, climb, or trust. The other monkeys saw her hesitation, her unfamiliarity with their ways. They pushed her aside, took her food, and made her feel like an outsider. Twice, illness nearly took her, and twice, the caretakers at Monkey Home raced her to Santiago, determined to save her life. And Lola? She fought, as she always had.
Time has passed, and now, when you visit Monkey Home, you might see her. She’s still learning, still adjusting. You can recognize her by her tail—sometimes, when she’s nervous, she nibbles at it, a reminder of the past she carries with her. At first, she hid from visitors, unsure of their intentions. But now, she watches, studies, even dares to inch closer. She still has no best friend among the group, except for Tanus, the proud alpha male who keeps an eye on her, a silent guardian in her journey.
Lola’s story is just one of many at Monkey Home.
